SO LONG, FAREWELL...to the grand old trees of Panaji's Campal promenade as they give up on life one by one, unable to defend themselves against the mighty IFFI's axe of progress and development! Going, going, gone. If you have goodbyes to say to your favourite trees, say them now, if you have tears to shed shed them now. For see how the green giants go with dignity, silently, beneatth the gaze of brue insensitivity. The "children of Mother Earth"...the huge rain forest trees, the sacred peepal and banyan, the colourful gulmohur, laburnam, tulip and copperpod, the soothing akash neems which bloom post-monsoon and throughout the winter months and which are blooming gloriously currently, scattering cascades of fragrant white blossoms for tears...as if they know that their days are numbered and that they may never bloom again next year down the Campal. And afterwards, when the trees are gone, life will never be the same again the pretty little heritage town of Panaji.

BJP'S WATERLOO
Erwin Fonseca, Assagao, Bardez .
MANOHAR Parrikar recently celebrated four years in office. Throughout these four years he has behaved more like a dictator. What are the achievements if all this government's law and order is in a breakdown state, and Panjim is in a complete mess in the name of IFFI? There's a flop cyber age scheme, acts of vandalism, defections, tussles with honest police officers, hushing up of cases involving influential people…the state of inertia of River Princess, pot-holed roads, rising unemployment , increasing corruption, destructive RSS programmes, neglect of basic primary education. The list is long and these are the achievements of Parrikar's ministry! In my opinion the CM is an insane, immoral, uncivilised, uncultured dictator who has killed the Goan press and is now on the verge of destroying the beautiful face of Goa.
But remember one thing and that is if in the other states the BJP has met its Waterloo, it will happen in Goa too. I don't understand why no action has been taken with reference to the Mapusa hotel vandalisation and River Princess cases. The people of Poinguinim are traitors because they have sold their votes in the retail market of politics and rung the death knell for a healthy democracy in the State. Our politicians are greedy for power and position and little interested in serving Goa or the people of Goa. I wish the people of Goa would distinguish between the cosmetic changes carried out by the government and genuine needs which go unfulfilled.
New Faces
Jerry Fernandes, Saligao.
THE POLITICAL game is finally over. Despite the combined Opposition putting up a sincere and a brave fight money and muscle power has finally prevailed in the Poinguinim bye-elections. The Ketuvian or the demon of Praveen Togadia have managed to win the Poinguinim bye-elections for the BJP with the active support of his notorious friend, the bold and power-hungry, Mr. Mogambo' alias ‘Chota Dawood Ibrahim' from Taleigao.
If the Congress really wants to return to power in Goa in the future the first thing they should do is dump all its selfish senior leaders, the Faleiros, the Sardinhas, the Ranes, Narvekars, Naiks, etc., in the dustbin of history, because these politicians are undisputedly the main culprits and chief collaborators of the communal BJP. I think the such self-centered and corrupt leaders should quit the Congress in the interests of the party.
The existing statistics still say that the ruling BJP has absolutely no chance of getting a majority on its own even if we go for immediate Assembly elections and that too without the support of all the power hungry and shameless Ketuvians e.g. Monserates, Saldanhas , D'Souzas, Fernandes, Rodrigues, etc. All their big talk of “good governance” and Goan people supporting their party and policies sounds really hollow.
There is a saying — “Empty vessels make the most noise” — and surely these communal people are no exceptions. It's a fact that during the last Assembly elections the BJP would not have got more than 12 seats in Goa, but thanks to egoistic political parties like the NCP and UGDP which succeeded in playing havoc with the Congress votes, they helped the communal BJP to come to the power and position they enjoy today. As for Congress observers who understand nothing about Goan politics but come here only with the sole intention of filling their own suitcases by selling party tickets to the highest bidders…they should not be entertained but unceremoniously dumped in the Mandovi river!
Not for Goans?
Thomas B. Fernandes, Via Email .
I FULLY agree with Lambert Mascarenhas and if the so-called champions of Goa do not get rid of their greed or lust for power, the Goa of Goans will be gone forever. The BJP government led by the Dictator, Manohar Parrikar, has already saffronised his Government departments, as also the police force, and now with the "lollipop" (land for landless non-Goans) Goa will no more be of the Goans but the Togadias, Advanis, Modis, Bhartis, Swarajas, will be proud owners of land in Goa while Goans have none.
Time and again our Kristao montris and amdars have been used by the Dictator to saffronise the whole of Goa as they are ready to sell their soul for a price, a shame indeed. Worse still, our Kristao foxes ( amdars ) are quietly sitting on the walls watching the Goan Humpty falls. Amdar Baba, nhidentlo kednam tum zago zatlo ga?
Besides, the Dictator of Goa is hell bent on completing his IFFI-related projects, giving a damn for the wishes of the common Goan. In other words even denying livelihood to Goans. This was dramatized by the illegal razing of the ice-factory... what a disgrace to Goans. Can the Dictator tell us who will benefit the most by the film festival, Goans or non-Goans?
Furthermore, the Dictator of Goa was quoted as saying the Government has spent around Rs.50 crores on the Exposition and a few days later the Old Goa Basilica residence was engulfed in the worst fire of its kind. By the way, how can we believe the BJP government which has time and again indulged in day light atrocities, the Modi way, on minorities? It is, therefore, my earnest request to the Dictator to please stop fooling Goans all the time.
