BLACK DAY FOR KONKANI
FILMS
|
 |
The IFFI
being held in Goa
these days is indeed an insult to all Goans. Despite providing
financial assistance of Rs 21 lakhs to a Marathi film, Parriker
dishonorable, did not feel fit to include even the first konkani
blockbuster “Amchem Noxib” in the festival. This marks the death
of konkani cinema. |
Goans
should have protested in the bitterest forms against the IFFI,
against this move. The magic of the first Konkani films should have
been screened to ensure the world does get a glimpse of a true
Konkani film.
By doing
this Parrikar has proved that he has no respect for Konkani Mai.
Well done Parriker, you will be given your due in your own home at
the next hustings.

Reward
For Loyalty?
Manohar
Parrikar recently sacked DGP Amod Kanth. This action on the part of
Parrikar was highly unbecoming of a person of IIT calibre. Truly one
is convinced that power has gone to Parrikar’s head and he has
become totally corrupt. He justifies his actions saying that Kanth
was of late challenging government orders.
Well what
does Parrikar think? Just as he controls his ministers, he thought
he could control the police force. Parrikar thinks he is the
Maharaja of the yet to be named Govapuri.
Amod
Kanth was only doing his duty and going strictly by the Indian law.
It looks like in Goa an officer should stick to Parrikar law or else
pack up. What is even more
surprising is that no Catholic minister stood up in support of Kanth.
I don’t say support the Congress because even Luizinho sacked the
Chief Secretary in 1999. This action of Luizinho has now become a
benchmark for Parrikar to justify his actions.
Where are
those words while taking oath “I will uphold the constitutional
sovereignty, integrity, show no fear or favour, “these words and
many such words on the oath are thrown to the winds.
My call
goes out to each and every truthful, peace-loving Goan. Wake up from
your deep slumber before it is too late. Goa is going on the path of
self destruction in the hands of corrupt, selfish, egocentric
politicians and today’s politicians owe an explanation for those
selfless politicians or freedom fighters who liberated Goa from the
Portuguese. Before it is too late, “UTT GOEMKARA” and revolt. My
salutation to Amod Kanth.
Joseph
D’Souza,
Mapusa.
Few Exceptions
Indian
Administrative Service (IAS) and IPS Officers are highly paid
specialised people meant to streamline key areas in State
administration. Unfortunately, politicians (including Congress) use
them to do their own bidding. Officers refusing to heed to
politicians can at the most be asked to return to the Centre. They
do not suffer any job or pay loss or discontinuity in service.
Therefore it is expected of them not to bow down to politicians.
Former
DGP Amod Kant can go back satisfied that he maintained his
integrity, unlike Suryanarayan who had a great opportunity to remove
the ‘River Princess’ but failed because of singular lack of
integrity, and all the rest in Goa today. (Mr. Richard D’ Souza
former Forest Officer also showed some strength of character).
Unlike the
Congress, Parrikar is spending double the amount of money for the
same output: first he uses the IAS officers to his party’s work and
then he pays ‘consultants’ to do the work .
Poor
administration has always been the major drawback of the country and
for this we have the spineless IAS cadre to thank with few
exceptions like Kant and D’ Souza.

KTC buses pitiable
The
highly publicised so-called renovated and refurbished Panjim Kadamba
Bus Terminal was recently inaugurated with much pomp and fanfare. A
visit to the bus stand and you will see dirt and debris everywhere.
You cannot escape the stink and the chaos. A few new shops and
parking bays have been erected but the overall condition of the
terminal is pathetic and not passenger friendly, leaving much to be
desired.
Dayanand
Bandodkar Marg is not Panjim. The authorities have ensured that the
IFFI Avenue is all decked up. What about the other Panjim roads
that languish dug up and dusty. Will we have to wait for another
festival? Whether the hurriedly carried out IFFI works are
substandard and unplanned will be known only in June when the
monsoons set in. Only then could we certify that the all these works
were worth the while and the taxpayer’s money.
It is
surprising that though the Chief Minister, who is Chairman of the
Kadamba Transport Corporation he has not been able to infuse any
life and change in it. Perhaps the Chief Minister was so busy
supervising the IFFI tamasha works that he had no time to catch up
and monitor the renovation of the Panjim Bus stand.
The
condition of the Kadamba buses and its accident rate needs to be
looked at. I won’t mind wearing a helmet while travelling on the
shuttle for the fear of the bus landing into the field. If you look
at some of the relatively new buses you wonder whether they were
bought second hand. The drivers should be held accountable for the
bad maintenance of the buses.
Once the
IFFI phobia is off Chief Minister Parrikar’s mind, the overall
working of the Kadamba Transport Corporation should be his priority.
Even if it means a trip to Singapore, it would not be in vain.

Rodrigues,
Ribandar.
